Left the house at 5pm and arrived in Wichata Falls, TX around 2:30am, and probably had McDonalds for dinner. We searched for a La Quinta because they're all pet-friendly and they've always served us well as far as being clean and everything. Well, first of all, we have a few requirements: downstairs room, two beds, and must be accept pets. Well we got lucky that the first place we rolled into at such a late hour had a room that met our requirements. Well we got into our room and sat down for a moment and the fire alarm was beeping like it needed a new battery and my mom said that there was no way that she could sleep through the beeping. So she called the front desk and the lady said that she had one other downstairs double but to come look at it first because she didn't usually rent out these particular rooms and this was one of them. We went to look at the room at the carpet was diiiiisgusting, but it was quiet, and the beds were very comfortable, so we slept.
Day two: (Albuquerque, NM)
The next morning, my mom went to check us out and she told the lady that was at the desk then that the room was awful - the carpet was just disgusting, and that we should get a discount, so the lady at the desk replied, "Oh you don't have to tell me how bad those rooms are, we've been trying to get them remodeled for a while now..I'll tell you what I'll refund your full amount!" So, we got one free night. We left there towards Albuquerque, New Mexico. But first, we ate some McD's and hung out with some cute ducks:
And we drove on our way,

When we got to Armarillo, TX, my dad said that we will arrive in ABQ late, probably around 11pm, and will probably have a hard time getting a room. It was only 5 o'clock so my mom and I said just to drive on. Well we drove til we rolled into New Mexico, stopped at the visitor's center at the state line and took pictures and got a bunch of flyers for things to do. When we got into ABQ I believe we were in the downtown area and all the hotels were packedd..we checked all the La Quinta's - no availability..we checked numerous other places and nothing was available. We pulled into a "Motel 1" on a hard looking end of town...my mom and I went in to ask about a room. Well, first of all we should have left when they didn't even use computers to log their guests, just pen and paper. He took us around, walking past multiple shopping carts to get to this room. When he opened the door, the room was TINY, dark, and it smelled awful. So the guy said, "okay not problem, we have a BRAND NEW wing over here, it's beautiful and there's plenty of space, I'll call my manager and let him know that you're coming." I honestly don't know what we were expecting at this point, but we were already hooked in so we thought it was at least worth a try. We drove around, and well, there was plenty of space, and it probably was beautiful and brand new...about 10 years ago. It was GROSS, the bed was broken, and it was just as bad as the first room. So we said no, and the 'manager' was telling us that our problem was our dogs...I wanted to be like, "SCREW YOU, DUDE!" Don't say that you're pet-friendly and then tell us that our dogs are a problem, you're disgusting, drug-addict ridden sham of a hotel is our problem, dude. Needless to say, we left and after driving and looking, not eating, for about 2 hours or so and finally rolled into a Econolodge. It wasn't luxury, but it WAS a bed, and it WAS clean, and there wasn't rude staff to deal with. It was about 2am or so, and we had McDonalds once again. After we had settled into our room, I called the La Quinta and reserved a first-floor double for the next night. So we slept at the Econolodge.
Day three: (Albuquerque, NM)
We woke up, checked-out of the Econolodge, and I called La Quinta to see if our room was ready, and we had to wait til check-in time (3pm). So we got Schlotzkey's, went to a medical center where there was grass and plenty of shade, and ate and let the dog's out. I'll take this opportunity to talk about the weather here: it's AWESOME. There is NO humidity like Houston. You can sit in the shade, and be nice and cool, feel a nice constant breeze, and ACTUALLY BE COOL. You can do that in Houston and with the moisture in the air, it's really hard to cool off. That being said, the sun does seem to be hotter, but there kind of is a heat wave right now, so I'm handing it to that. Anyways, I LOVE New Mexico.
So we waited in front of our room til we saw that they were finished cleaning it at went back to the front desk and got our keys. We got in, brought all of our stuff in, relaxed, and...the A/C wasn't working right. So we called the front desk and let them know about it, and the kid that was working up there said that'd he be there soon. When he finally showed up, he flipped it off and said that usually they just need to be reset and he could in fact tell that the room was warm, well he tried to flip it back on...nothing. Off...on...off....on...nothing. He said that we was going to go get his maintnence guy. When the kid came back, Paul, he said that their manager was all over them about overtime and his maintnence guy was getting off so he'd have to move us to another room. Downstairs, single king with a roll-out bed. So we said fine, we'll take it. We got in, brought all of our stuff in, settled down, and were about to get ready to go out to eat at the Denny's that was right outside of our room. My dad took a shower, no problem. I got in to take a shower..and the hot water handle is broken. So I get my dad to look at it to see what the problem is, and he takes off the handle and it needs to be fixed with an allen wrench, which we don't have, of course. So my mom is really upset now because we've already switched rooms once and now probably again. Paul says, "oh no" and tells up that they have no more rooms available (because it's already around 7pm) and that he'll call the other La Quinta's and try to find us a room. He finally calls back, with kind of good news, he says that he's got us a room across the street at the Hampton Inn, and to meet him up front and they'll figure out how they'll pay Hampton Inn for our stay. We load back up, and head up to the front. Well we had reserved that room for two nights because we had plans for the next day and needed the room for our dogs. My mom told him that they should pay for us for two nights, and he says okay with no argument. (PS- he was a legitimately sincere guy and knew that we were having hell). So we got over to Hampton Inn, which was a way nicer room anyway, and stayed there for 2 nights, courtesy of La Quinta.
Day 4: (Albuquerque, NM)
We decided to just get in the car and go sight-seeing. We saw two of the shooting sites from Breaking Bad...I was totally psyched.
We saw the Octopus Car Wash and Walt's house!
And drove and drove, and rode.
Oh and we saw some roadrunners!
And these cool adobe houses blow my mind:
What a view, right! I'd love to live in one of those.
